NETCO held its ninth annual Food Show, “Vote for School Lunch”, on October 11, 2006 at Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City. Four hundred students, school administrators, parents, and teachers attended and evaluated nearly two hundred products at 64 vendor booths. The products included items currently being served in the school meals program as well as new products being considered for placement on the NETCO bid.

Marisa Potter, NETCO, awards FSI-Kentucky’s Chris Nelson with the First Place Booth Award.  The award was based on adherence to the theme, decor, and enthusiasm of staff.

  The “Cows” made their annual appearance at the Show.
  School Nutrition employees, staff, and children voted on their favorite products.
  Vendors spent time explaining the products to students. Vendors showed many products that had been re-formulated to meet nutrition guidelines.  100% juice, reduced fat, reduced sugar, zero trans fats, and whole grain were descriptions that students heard often through the day.
  Parents and children enjoyed spending a day together voting for nutritious foods.
  Students completed a detailed, written evaluation form on all the products sampled at the Show.
  NETCO’s School Nutrition supervisors closely evaluated all products along with the invited guests.
  A family affair—Cocke County School Nutrition Supervisor and NETCO member Terri Sawyer with her son, Nathan Chambers.  Mr. Chambers, a teacher in Cocke County, brought his class to evaluate the products.
